The Prince William Public Library System is proud to offer a new service: Wowbrary! This new, free e-mail alert service showcases the newest titles purchased by the Library System each week. Find out about the latest bestsellers, DVDs, music CDs, and audiobooks all from the comfort of your home or office! Whenever you spot something of interest, just click on the “borrow” button to place a request for the title right away.

Every Wednesday you will receive an e-mail with the Library System’s latest acquisitions. Wowbrary is totally free and does not require a library card, however, to place a title on request, you will need a library card barcode number. Library cards are free as well—just stop by your local library to get a card!

Celebrate Bull Run Library’s 15th Birthday With Singer Tom Sieling

  • For all ages.
  • Thursday, June 25, 10:30 a.m.

A singer and guitarist/banjoist, Tom will present “Howl at the Moon — With a Wild Thing Tune!” His humorous songs about nature are fun, lively and informative. Tom comes from Newfield, NY.

Free tickets may be picked up, in person, beginning June 18.

 

Be Creative @ Your Library

This year’s Summer Quest Summer Reading Program, "Be Creative @ Your Library", is for infants through students entering grade five.

 

Register in person at any Prince William Public Library beginning June 22 and receive your special "Be Creative @ Your Library" reading log to keep track of all the great books you read or have read to you.

 

Start reading to earn great incentives at 5, 15, and 25 books. In addition, once you’re registered you will receive a "Coupon of the Week" each week you come into the library. You’ll get a coupon just for coming into the library whether you have read zero or 25 books or more. The coupons are for food or fun at local restaurants, parks, sporting events and more.

 

Readers will also want to check out all the great free programs at the library this summer like puppet shows, movies, storytimes, music, crafts and much more.

Be Creative @ Your Library ends September 4.

 

Express Yourself @ Your Library For students entering grades 6–12.

In the Wild Reads: Express Yourself Summer Reading Program, students entering grades 6–12 can earn incentives while they relax and read thissummer. Starting June 1 registration will be open at www.pwcgov.org/library/teens or you may register at the library. Begin logging in your books as you read

for rewards at 3, 6, and 9 books. You can even add a short review for each book read. Once you have read 3, 6 or 9 books, stop at the desk on your next library visit to pick up your coupons for food or fun and an entry in the Endof- Summer drawing for great prizes. Dozens of prizes will be awarded and one lucky reader from each library will receive a $100 gift certificate!

Wild Reads: Express Yourself ends September 4.

Come for hands-on insect information with Karrie Cox from the Prince William County Environmental Services Division. She is bringing live bugs, including a Giant Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, to the Library.

Free timed tickets may be picked up, in person, beginning June 19.

 

What You Can Create with Clay — Alfredo Hijar

Mr. Hijar, sculptor, will introduce us to techniques used to create sculptures and pots from real river clay. He will show us how to create “objects d’art" with this satisfyingly “gooshy" material, and will bring a wheel to demonstrate throwing pottery. The second day you will be glazing your creations.

Joe Wos: Once Upon a Toon Tunes

 

Laugh along with the zany storytelling and live cartoon illustrations of nationally-acclaimed cartoonist Joe Wos of Pittsburgh. He is a member of the National Storytelling Association and was the first residential cartoonist at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in California.

"Stonewall Hinkleman and the Battle of Bull Run"

Presented by Michael Hemphill & Sam Riddleburger

Commemorate the 148th anniversary of the First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas) with the authors of the new

and acclaimed Civil War time-travel book for kids, Stonewall Hinkleman and the Battle of Bull Run.

Michael Hemphill and Sam Riddleburger entertain audiences of all ages with a show that includes juggling, hardtack and engaging conversation about the Civil War's first major battle. This is a great opportunity to capture your child's interest and imagination in the Civil War. Books will be available for purchase. Book sales

will benefit the Friends of Central and Bull Run Libraries.

Wowbrary

Prince William Library now offers Wowbrary which is a free subscription to email or RSS notifications of the Library's newest acquisitions.  The subscriber can choose from up to 31 topics including DVD's and receive email notifications on new additions.  Or the subscriber can elect RSS notifications and will not even have to provide email account information.  For information about RSS, scroll down to the bottom of this page for a short video provided by CommonCraft.

  

Sign Up for Free Email Reminders!

Prince William Libraries offer a free email reminder system.  Sign up for Email Notifications and receive notices 3 days prior to the due date.  Then you can either return the item on time or renew it. 

 

Overdrive

Prince William Library has started adding MP3 titles to the collection of eaudiobooks. This format can be played on an IPOD. Fairfax and Loudoun also offer MP3 titles. Check Overdrive for information on compatible devices.

Loudoun Library Wiki offers information on all of the county library branches and local information. Beautifully done, through PBwiki of course.
